Wall Art

30 09 2013

So I’ve been trying to make some ceramic doiley’s lately. Tricky business these fragile things. Getting the hang of it though. I’m loving the way that ceramic objects can be so light and dainty like their material references. Each piece is also a complete one off and can never be reproduced as the fabric doiley is destroyed in the process.

Mrs Young

30 09 2013

I’m not sure if it’s strange to have two alter egos?

The first and the longest so far being Porcelain Rove, the creative name I hide behind, it is more comforting than selling your goods under your own name.

The second being Mrs Young: the art teacher. I spend more time in my classroom than I do at home. The little monkeys I see each day are mischievous, creative, curious and inspiring. I also love my creative space, the tables are ‘arty’ and some say need repainted. They do however make a great contrasted backdrop to my ceramic pieces!

Thanks to everyone who came to support on Saturday. I was very upset I didn’t get to go shopping myself- will definitely have to  book in a helper for next time so I can have a snoop around!

Always it’s Alice

9 03 2013

I think it started with the Disney version, there are stories from my Mum of obsessive repetitive viewing and a broken tape as evidence. Renewed by presents from my husband- op shop Alice books, a history of C.S. Lewis and a motivational poster with the white rabbit, I just can’t let her go.

I get in trouble at home for ‘cluttering’ the coffee table, however I just like being surrounded by things that make me smile. At the moment this is: my Crown Lynn swan (featured in earlier photos) my small but slowly growing collection of Alice in Wonderland books from the op shop up the road, a seagull skull I was recently given by my friend Nick, a teaspoon from Gran, my origami flower tree and some black flax from the garden. Bliss.
